Pressure Vessel Metallurgy & Low-Temperature Notch Toughness
Manufactured using fine austenitic grain practice and fully killed steel chemistry, ASTM A516 Grade 70 offers minimum tensile strength of 485 to 620 MPa with high resistance to brittle fracture. Plates are normalized to achieve verified Charpy V-notch impact absorption energy at sub-zero test temperatures down to -46°C (Grade 60) and -29°C (Grade 70).
Fabrication Suitability & Ultrasonic Verification
A516 plates provide superior formability for hot and cold dished head pressing, rolling of cylindrical vessel shells, and tube sheet machining in shell-and-tube heat exchangers. Internal soundness is verified through 100% ultrasonic examination conforming to ASME SA578 Level B or SA435 standards.
